The hall is supposedly haunted by a white lady and the house was once visited by Ruskin. Offering cream teas in summer this is a delightful place to visit and entrance prices are reasonable. Croxdale Hall
Croxdale Hall is that rare thing, a real country house with a resident family still residing in it. Home to the Salvin family since 1482 it has been open to the paying public since 2000 and is a stunning example of an early Tudor building with a re-casing of 18th century design. The house boasts a private chapel, an Orangery and lakes. Visits are by appointment only and if you are staying in one of the excellent hotels in Durham then you are well-placed to pop in to visit the ancestral home of the Salvins!
